Flight Lieutenant Alick ("Vivian") Mewa was a New Zealand airman of the Royal New Zealand AIr Force who died during the Second World War while attached to the Royal Air Force.
He was born in Auckland, the son of Ranjan and Piwari Mewa, later of Westmere, Wellington.
Aged 25, Mewa, serving in 98 Squadron, died on 19 August 1944 when his B-25 Mitchell (HD329) was lost on a flare release operation over the Falaise area. None of the crew, including Flight Lieutenant Laxman Ajrekar, survived.[1]
Mewa, who was reported to be the first person of Indian descent commissioned into the RNZAF, had participated in 57 operational sorties over occupied Europe before his last fateful mission.[2]
He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Runnymede Memorial..
