Officer's Steward 1st Class Carmelo Buhagiar was a Maltese sailor of the Royal Navy who died during the First World War.

He was born on 15 March 1884, in Valetta, the son of Dionisio Buhagiar. The younger Buhagiar married in Portsmouth, in 1910, to Edith Maud Smith.

Buhagiar died on 22 September 1914, when the German U-boat U-9 torpedoed and sunk the Cressy-class armoured cruiser HMS Hogue, which was attempting to recover survivors from sister-ship Aboukir  The loss of a  third sister-ship, Cressy, to U-9 brought the day's casualties to 1,397 men. 

He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
