Second Lieutenant (Elias) Edgar Kahn was an English officer of the British Army who died during the First World War.
He was born in 1892, in Edmonton, London, the son of Emil, a printer stationer, and Frances Kahn (née Isaacs). At the time of the 1911 census, Kahn was employed by his father as a clerk.
Kahn died on 5 May 1915, defending Hill 60 from a concerted German attack during the Second Battle of Ypres, while serving with the 1st Battalion, The Prince of Wale's Own Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians). He died alongside Captain John Adams and two others when a shell exploded amongst them. Overall losses, including wounded, exceeded 120, and the position was lost.[1] He had been gazetted as a temporary second-lieutenant in February 1915, having been a private in the Honourable Artillery Company.[2]
He has no known grave and is comemmorated by the Menin Gate Memorial.
