Engine Room Artificer 3rd Class Edwin George Oesterlein was an English sailor of the Royal Navy who died during the First World War.
He was born on 26 May 1888, in Wandsworth, the son of German-born baker Frederick Gottlieb and Martha Jane Oesterlein (née Rutter), of London.
Oesterlein, who entered the navy in 1909, died on 31 May 1916, during the Battle of Jutland, when the battlecruiser HMS Queen Mary exploded after being twice hit by shells from the German warship Derfflinger, with the loss of 1,266 crew.
He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
