Captain Frank Henry Koncelik Ryland was an English officer of the British Army who died during the Second World War.
He was born on 8 September 1898,[1] at Windsor, the son of solicitor Frank Theodore and Adolfine Augusta Ryland (née Koncelik), of Anerley and Austria, respectively. Ryland studied at the United Services College and qualified as a solicitor in 1921, practising at Slough. He went into partnership with his father, and was appointed a Magistrates' Clerk.[2][3] Ryland was commissioned on 1 August 1917, in the Berkshire Regiment, as an officer of the Special Reserve.[4]
Mobilised after the outbreak of war, Ryland went to France with his regiment's 4th Battalion in 1940. His battalion later moved to Belgium, and sustained heavy losses during German's invasion. Ryland suffered severe shell-shock during the defence of the Albert Canal,[5] and was reported to have died on 31 May. He had married in 1936, to Joan Eileen Dale.
He is buried in Veurne Communal Cemetery Extension.
