Private George Robert Bassi was an English soldier of the British Army who died during the First World War.
He was born in 1887, at Holborn, the son of Italian-born Rotillio Carlo, a cabinet maker originally of Brescia, and Amelia Maria Bassi (née Balbi), of London. At the time of the 1911 census, the younger Bassi was working as a barman while living with his wife, Norah Drew, at 76 St Peter's Street, Hackney Road. They had married on 25 October 1910.[1]
Bassi died on 28 July 1916, during the Somme Offensive, while serving on the Western Front with the 13th (Service) Battalion (West Ham), The Essex Regiment.
He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Thiepval Memorial.
