Private Harry Himmelstein was a soldier of the British Army who died during the First World War.
He was born in Poland, in the then-Russian Empire, the son of Simon and Liba Himmelstein. At the time of the 1911 census, the Himmelstein family were residing at 30 Christian Street, London, where Harry's father worked as an under presser in tailoring.
Aged 19, Himmelstein died on 21 March 1918, during the Battle of St. Quentin, while serving with the 2/2nd (City of London) Battalion (Royal Fusiliers), The London Regiment on the Western Front. He had been posted from the 1st Londons and had given Whitechapel as his place of birth on enlistment.[1]
He is buried in Chauny Communal Cemetery British Extension.
