Leading Seaman James Barrett was an Irish sailor of the Royal Navy who died during the Second World War.

He was born the son of William and Margaret Barrett, of Bandon, County Cork.

Aged 26, Barrett died on 8 June 1940, when the aircraft carrier HMS Glorious was sunk in an engagement with the German battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau off Norway, with the loss of more than 1,200 crew.

He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
