Midshipman John Adrian Gerard Kanaar was an English sailor of the Royal Naval Reserve who died during the First World War.

He was born in 1897, in Islington, the son of Dutch-born Gerard John, a produce merchant and commission agent, and Stella Annie Kanaar (née Cox), of Somerset. At the time of the 1911 census, the Kanaar family were residing at 25 Dorset Road, Merton Park.

Kanaar died on 5 June 1916, when the armoured cruiser HMS Hampshire, embarking Field Marshal Lord Kitchener, sank north of the Orkney Islands, Scotland.

He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
