Leading Steward Joseph Vella was a Maltese sailor of the Royal Navy who died during the Second World War.
He was born in Malta, the son of Louis and Anne Vella, and the husband of Josephine.
Aged 28, Vella died on 21 May 1941, during the Battle of Crete, when Italian aircraft sunk the destroyer HMS Juno, with the loss of more than 100 crew
He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
