Private Joseph Kevork Zorian was an English soldier of the British Army who died during the First World War.
He was born on 2 December 1897, at Salford, Lancashire, the son of Armenian parents Kevorn Hovannes and Helen Zorian (née Maloolian). His parents had been born in Diarbekir, in the Ottoman Empire, but left their homeland to escape the massacres of 1895.[1] Zorian's father taught languages in Lancashire, declaring his occupation in the 1911 census as missionary and superintendent to the Servant Strangers' Mission.
Before joining the army, Zorian attended Manchester Municipal Secondary School and was employed by Ayrton's Engineering Works of Belle Vue. He enlisted on 6 March 1917, in the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Welsh Fusiliers, and went to the Western Front in May of that year. Zorian died on 17 October 1917, at No. 8 Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, of wounds received at Zonnebeke on 27 September.[1]
He is buried in Wimereux Communal Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais.
