Lionel Bernstein

Private Lionel Bernstein was an English soldier of the British Army who died during the First World War.

He was born in 1896, at Sunderland, the son of Polish parents Samuel, a general furniture dealer, and Bertha Bernstein. At the time of the 1911 census, the Bernstein family were residing at 15 Churchill Street.

Bernstein died on 5 March 1917, of wounds received on the Western Front, while serving with the 22nd Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps. He had first arrived in France in October 1915.[1]

He is buried in Varennes Military Cemetery.
