He was born on 18 December 1874, at Catania, Sicily,[1] the son of Stellario and Angiolina Grasso, and later husband of Concetta Jaci, of Malta.

Grasso died on 31 May 1916, during the Battle of Jutland, when the armoured cruiser HMS Black Prince was lost with all hands. He had entered the navy in 1895.[1]

He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
