Private Michael Daly was a soldier of the British Army who died during the First World War.
He was born in Taiping, Malaya, the son of Eurasian parents Joseph, a planter by profession, and Beatrice Daly (née Martin). His younger sister, Sybil, became a nurse and noted personality in the resistance against Japanese occupation during the Second World War.
Aged 21, Daly died on 10 July 1915, during the Gallipoli Campaign, while serving with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Munster Fusiliers. On joining his regiment in Rangoon, in August 1914,[1] Daly claimed his place of birth to be Cork, Ireland. He had been planting at Perak at the time of his enlistment.[1]
He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Helles Memorial.
