Lance Corporal Nicholas Christoffel Van Schalkwyk was a South African soldier of the British Army who died during the Second World War

He was born in South Africa, the son of Frederick Johannes Jacobus and Johanna Alberta Mamia Van Schalkwyk, of Uniondale, Cape Province.

Aged 25, Van Schalkwyk died on 29 May 1940, during the German invasion of Belgium, while serving with the 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards.

He is buried in Hoogstade Cemetery, Alveringem, Belgium.
