Able Seaman Norman Acheson was an Irish sailor of the Royal Navy who died during the Second World War.
He was born the son of William and Lilias Acheson, of Edenderry, County Offaly.
Aged 19, Acheson died on 17 September 1939, when the German U-boat U-29 torpedoed and sunk the aircraft carrier HMS Courageous, which had been been on patrol off Ireland. More than 500 of the ship's crew perished.
He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Plymouth Naval Memorial.=
