Flying Officer Ramesh Chandra Datta was an Indian airman of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
He was born the son of Tarini Charan and Susila Sundari Datta, of Calcutta. An associate of the Royal College of Science,[1] Datta obtained his commission in the RAFVR in October 1942.[2]
Aged 32, Datta, a navigator in 97 Squadron, died on 9 July 1943, when his Avro Lancaster (serial ED923) was shot down over Belgium by a German night-fighter, crashing at Bassenge, while engaged on an operation against Koln.[1]
Datta and his six fellow crew are buried in Heverlee War Cemetery, Leuven.
