Warrant Officer Richard (or Ricardo) Pedrazzini was an English airman of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died during the Second World War.
He was born in 1914, in Lambeth, the eldest son of Italian-born Battista (Baptiste) and Harriet Emma Victoria Pedrazzini (née Warne), of Newton Abott. When Italy entered the war on Germany's side, Pedrazzini's father was declared an "enemy alien" while his mother was dismissed from the ARP. Although not subject to internment like many others, he was restricted to a five-mile radius of his home and could not possess any means of transportation, nor have access to a wireless radio.[1]
Pedrazzini joined the Royal Air Force, but, after the outbreak of hostilities between Britain and Italy, he found himself dismissed.[1] He was able to rejoin and served as a bomber and navigator in 635 Squadron. Pedrazzini died on 13 August 1944, when his Avro Lancaster (ND694) crashed at Werbomont while engaged on an operation against Russelsheim.[2]
He is buried in Hotton War Cemetery, Belgium.
