Private Sylvester Valerio was an English soldier of the British Army who died during the First World War.
He was born at Huddersfield, the son of Italian-born ice cream vendor Salvatore Valerio and Emily Harriet Valerio (née Fazackerley), of Liverpool. At the time of the 1911 census, Valerio was working as a woolen cloth weaver while living with the Hardcastle family at 5 Tindalls Yard, Hawk Street.
Aged 35, Valerio died on 24 June 1918, of wounds received on the Western Front, while serving with the 2nd Battalion, The Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment). An older brother, Alfred, a driver in the Royal Field Artillery, had died in 1917.
He is buried in Lapugnoy Military Cemetery.
