Leading Bandsman Virgilio Mauro was an Italian sailor of the Royal Navy who died during the First World War.

He was born on 21 January 1872, in Salerno,[1] the son of John and Frances Mauro, and entered the navy in 1891.

Aged 43, Mauro died on 31 May 1916, during the Battle of Jutland, when the armoured cruiser HMS Defence exploded with the loss of all hands.

Mauro, who married Elvira Rossi of Valletta, Malta, has no known grave and is commemorated by the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
