Sergeant William George Nelson Hare was an English airman of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died during the Second World War.

He was born on 4 July 1914, in Pancras, the son of Walter and Louise Hare (née Machin), both of London. In 1939, Hare was enlisted in the RAFVR while also working as a boot and shoe salesman.[1]

Aged 27, Hare, an air gunner with 11 Operational Training Unit, died on 8 June 1941 when his Vickers Wellington (serial R1728) was lost while engaged on a navigational flight. A subsequent report concluded that it was 'reasonable to assume' that the Wellington had been lost to enemy action. Hare's body, and that of Sergeant Richard Burt, Royal Canadian Air Force, were later found in a dinghy and recovered, but their four crewmates remained missing.[2] He had married, in 1937, to Dora Levy.

He is buried in Hull Western Synagogue Cemetery.
